Hi,
My husband is 14/20 sessions of radiotherapy in. Could anyone enlighten regarding cumulative effect of RT? Also, how long after RT/ Hormone Therapy do you begin to feel a little more normal?
Many thanks!
The worst cumulative effect of RT is fatigue and it will stay with him unless he does something about it. It seems strange but the best cure for the fatigue is exercise! After my 20 sessions finished I was totally flat but my friends in the rowing club formed a rota and made me go out for a walk every day. At first we only managed a few hundred yards but within a few weeks were waking several miles. It will be six years next Tuesday since my RT finished and I still walk at least 35 miles every week, as well as swimming a mile twice a week and rowing at least once a week. Not too bad for someone who will be 78 in August.
The side effects of the HT will start to diminish about three months after the last injection. I was almost back to normal after six months, but some take longer.
I hope that helps.
Thankyou Seamus,
He is knackered at the moment and has gone from calasthenics/ weights every day to not feeling up to anything. Your post has been really helpful! With gratitude and all of my best wishes,
A
