Well chaps, it's been a bit of a wait since I first posted, but today I had the HDR Brachytherapy. Just a recap for any new readers. I am Peter, I am a Macmillan Benfits Caseworker, so I normally visit cancer patients and discuss/help to claim any benefits they may be entitled to. Today I an the other side of the equation and can now look my clients in the eye and say "I know what you mean" and actually mean it
I was in theatre for about 4 hours, having needles placed in very, very specific places (through the same process/access points as the biopsy was taken), that's why it takes so long, but as you're under a GA, you know nothing. The actual treatment is less that 20 mins. Woken up on the ward, and here I am 6 hours later and I can honestly say absolutely no pain. So an overnight stay, being brilliantly looked after. Every client I see mention that the treatment and nursing here in Poole is superb and I can echo that. I'll learn tomorrow just how it all went and then I'm back in on Wednesday for my radiotherapy planning session that will be done starting 17 Mar. I'll update you with the good and more importantly any bad side effects as time goes on.
For anyone facing this and have concerns, I can tell you that it is nowhere as scary as you may be imagining it to be. Peter
Hello Guern017
Great news and thank you for your update - please do keep them coming. You have done the hard part now (do you glow in the dark?) no seriously I am pleased it went well and I hope your recovery goes as well.
Radiotherapy is a walk in the park compared to your operation today so I wish you well with the RT.
After all we need you back in work so I can send more people your way - no again seriously you do a grand job and thank you. Keep the reports coming.
Best wishes - Brian.
