Hello to all in the P.C club. I was persctibed Bicalutamide 150mg for two months in 2019 with a P.S.A of 1220.After the two month the P.S.A went down to under 1.From then on Zoladex every twelve weeks, which iam still having,Over thr five years the P.S.A has crept up slighty and is 38.75 now.My Oncologist has put me back on Bicalutamide which is ongoing.Does any one else have Bicalutamide for any length of time.Iam  82 and the P.C does not bother me(fingers crossed).I think I was lucky that is was caught early. Thanks to my Doctor.Al  the best to you all. Derek

  • Hi Derek ( ), welcome to the club!

Bicalutamide can be used on a long term basis and if you can tolerate it, then well worth having a go.  Hopefully you will see a reduction again in your PSA.  Hopefully others will be along soon to add there comments.  Best wishes, David

  • David. Are there side effects long term then?

  • Hi Derek

Surprized that other medication has not been offered, do you have any underlying problems ? This could prevent having radiotherapy or chemotherapy, or even the drugs like enzalutamide or arbatrone, I’m on a injection called prostap 3 which I have to have for life ( it’s a hormone drug taken every 12 weeks ) if you have no problems I would be asking about other treatment.

    Stay Safe

    Joe

  • Joeven. No underlying problems as far as I know only Blood pressure tablets.I did say to my Oncologist that I would not have radiotherapy or chemo. At my age I wil let sleeping dogs lie,and leave in the hands of the professionals.I have had C.t scans and body scans so the must know what to perscribe.Derek

  • Derek ( ), I have only had Bicalutamide short term so can’t comment with any experience, but I think all drugs have side effects and each patient is different in how well they receive, react and tolerate drugs.  I am surprised that nobody has joined in who has been long term on Bicalutamide for PCa.  David

  • I have just come off Prostrap after 2 years as I was struggling with some of the side effects.  I have been on Bicalutamide for two weeks now so too early to feedback on side effects....but I will be on them for 10 months so I'm hoping they will be better than Prostrap
