How long does incontinence last after LARP?
Did anyone on this forum suffer no incontinence at all?

  • Hello Andy. This article might give you some answers. There appear to be many variables such as how much urethra is left, Retzius nerve sparing, expertise, weight, continence prior to surgery....... I am sure that there are some men who sail through and manage to attain full continence.

If you are considering surgery then do your homework on the expertise of the surgeon with the technique you are interested in.

  • Research show most men experience incontinence after prostatectomy so I think it stands to reason to expect it and then hopefully be happy if that’s not the case or at least to have lighter incontinence

Research also show that almost 6 to 7 men out of 10 men regain continence after approx 3 months. Age and of course excercise is the primary factors of regaining continence.

The term Incontinence is used for all types, from light dribbling to severe leakage so a rather broad term

    • Hello- I still have fairly bad incontinence 9 months after my operation. There is plenty of online research about this problem. I suggest you search for 'ralp prostate cancer incontinence research'. The NICE guidelines for prostate cancer are worth reading. I think they suggest that people be offered artificial urinary sphincter if their incontinence is very bad. This doesn't happen until at least 9 to 12 months after the operation. This is all from memory so you'd have to check this. From what I've read very few people suffer no incontinence at all, but I think it's a small price to pay for getting rid of the big C

    Good luck with your problem
