A month ago I had a first Degarelix injections, a larger dose to get it into my system. Felt terrible afterwards and don't talk about the swelling and pain in my stomach.

Anyway, last Thursday i had my first normal dose of one injection.

I still have a bad reaction in my stomach but in myself, I feel the best I have for months. Got some energy back, getting up early to help my wife do breakfast in our B&B, going out and walking further than i have been.

Is it the Degarelix giving me this energy boost?

I thought it made you tired and lethargic.

CHINS UP AND KEEP FIGHTING.

  • Hello  .

All of the injections/implants have been associated with fatigue to a lesser or greater extent so keeping up with the exercise will help. What I am wondering is whether the HT has reduced the cancer burden in your body so it is not having to fight so much. The cancer itself can cause fatigue both physically and mentally so it's a nice thought that you might be benefiting from it's reduction. My husband, who also has advanced prostate cancer, has found that he is feeling better and with more energy following his SBRT treatment in April. Just a thought.

How is your son doing now?

  • Hello Tomjef,  it's good to hear from you again, and nice to hear your feeling better and doing more, though I'm on a different HT I have heard of people getting an energy boost fron Degarelix which must feel nice as most of us get the energy drain so make the most of it, Can I ask,  is the swelling and pain at the injection site, please mention it at your next injection as I'm sure they could help, it must be lovely for you  both being able to help with  the B&B, and couldn't agree more keep fighting, best wishes to you and your family.

  • He's ok. Its hard with him being autistic.  It's like a competition between me and him. He can live a good long life with treatment, I've got limited life expectancy. But trying to explain it to him without causing friction is hard.

I'm resigned to it. I've just got to concentrate on him. He has a lot more years to live than me.

    I'm 68. He's 23.

  • The pain is at the injection site. A large swelling that burns and hurts like hell for days.

The consultant says I may be one of the few that it affects in this way.

After the original injections 28 days ago, I still have a solid lump in my stomach. They did say my stomach will become distorted over time.

  • Hi Tomjef, my eldests as I mentioned was told she had terminal cancer in May, sarcoma and was told 1 year originally then on seeing her oncologist for the first time this was raised to 3 years, we saw her MDT this week which included an oncology surgeon, who has convinced everyone that surgery followed by chemotherapy., HT or both will not only mean 2 more years but will come with a 30% chance of cure,  CHIN UP AND KEEP FIGHTING,  my best wishes for good news for your son, take care.

  • Hi Tomjef, injection site pain from your first degarelix injection is quite common but usually pain from the second one affects much fewer people, the lump is what is called the depot, it's where the drug is stored to be slowly released, lets hope your second injection is kinder on you, PS, I read your post to AH and totally agree we have to put our kids first, please say Hi to your family for me, take care.

  • Eddie ( ) that sound quite positive for your daughter.  Best wishes my friend. David

  • Thanks David, It was wonderful news, surgeon has invited us back to see him this week to go through everything and answer any questions we have, have been researching him and he is highly regarded by his colleagues, patients and family of patients who were given more time, often much more time, with their loved ones thanks to him and his team, I hope you and your loved ones are well, trying to book a family holiday to disneyland Florida, for this week, I think they know I'm desperate going by the prices they are quoting.

  • Hi David, just read your profile "again", and saw we are both having a recurrence a slow one, with over a year for you, and coming up to a year for me, was wondering about why you will start a new treatment when your PSA>2, and for me >1.5, I often think is partly due to guess work and hopefully a little more knowledge, good luck to you, to both of us with our next treatments, take care.

  • I've now had my consultants report through.

Her name is Professor Alison Birtle. Apparently one of the leading specialists in urological cancers.

She has graded my cancer as 5+4 so not a good result.

I'm still feeling fine ,not any pains etc.

My next appointment is with an orthopedic surgeon about having my pelvic bones pinned to prevent breaks.
