Treatment issues

So I was informed last week by my urology team that I was to be handed over to oncology to commence the next stage of my treatment which was expected to be a course of Chemotheraoy 8 sessions at 3 weekly intervals. However one of the Ct scan results were inconclusive related to potential small spread to my liver. I had a new liver MRI scan on 28 December and am awaiting results nervously. Has anyone had experience of this and is it likely to effect my treatment, I appreciate that I should be patient and wait for oncology but I am very worried and would appreciate any insight or experience .

  • Hi Skippy,

We also starting the journey few weeks ago with similar diagnostic to yours (just read your profile). The handover from urology to oncology is part of the process. In a way, urology finished their job and oncology take over. I know, it is very difficult to wait for the news about the liver MRI, however what the oncologist told us is that where ever the PC spread it is still a PC and therefore the treatment path remains the same.

Let us know the news and good luck with everything

    Best wishes

    Dafna

  • Hello Skippy.

Dafna is quite correct that IF there is metastatic spread to any part of the body it is still treated in the same basic way. After doing a little digging it would seem that a combination of chemotherapy drugs might be used if there is some liver involvement rather than just the single docetaxel. Please let us know what your scan says.

  • Hello   Not the best news BUT it's still treatable with Chemo - Oncology will get you sorted and I am sure you will be given the best possible treatment. We are with you on this journey and it's easy for me to say - be positive, think positive and you will help yourself to a good outcome.

Keep us posted - Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks Dafna I did not want to use Dr Google as I have come to only trust this group and prostate cancer uk, I find searching the internet very unhelpful for my mental well-being. The support I receive here is really helpful
