Hi,
My husband was diagnosed with Prostrate cancer in February this year with a PSA of 84.7 Gleason 4+5 had spread to the lymph nodes, the tip of his hip and behind one of his ribs has had 6 cycles of chemo and 6 cycles of radiotherapy. He is having hormone injections three monthly for life.
I believe the cancer is gauged by his psa and i am absolutely amazed that this is now 0.002
Explaining all this to an insurance company is not easy so thought that as well as an giving an update on his cancer and treatment would ask about travel insurance, we have booked a well earned holiday after christmas.
Thanks in advance
Hello Moo66 A warm welcome to the Community and the Prostate forum, we are a decent bunch.
I am so pleased your husband's PSA is so low - I am trying to get mine down to that level!!
Holiday insurance is expensive with cancer - I would advise you to join the Travel insurance forum for cancer patients To do this you can click on the link I have provided and once the page opens up, just click "join" on the black banner at the bottom of the page and you will then be able to do your research as to the best Company.
On a personal note - we have a pad in Turkey on the Asian side so need worldwide travel insurance. As well as my cancer Mrs Millibob has issues (medical one's too!!). I have found rather than take forever to complete an online form give the companies a ring and speak to a human being. You then know you have told them everything to ensure your cover is right for you.
I can't recommend any one Company but can confirm our policy was £ 800 ish for the year.
I hope this helps and you have a cracking holiday
Best wishes - Brian.

Hello moo66
I have spent weeks trying to find travel insurance. My husband has prostate cancer with spread to the spine and pelvis. Since diagnosis he hadn't had a further scan as they relie on the PSA blood test. Unfortunately as soon as we tick the box that says he hasn't had a scan since diagnosis the price jumps up from about £2,500 to 3,500 for an annual multi trip to Europe for both of us including my medical conditions. There is no way around this particular question. It is really unfair because talking to the oncologist it is the only cancer they don't re scan for. Insurance Companies should take note of this and if the Psa is lower then they should take this into account in their questions.
Hi Moo66.
I found insurancewith.com were the best company for us. It’s best to call and answer all the questions rather than risk a ‘computer says no’ response if you try to do it all online. The lady I spoke to completely understood about prostate cancer, treatments, PSA scores etc and the price quoted was a pleasant surprise. Definitely worth calling them if you haven’t already.
Good luck.
