I had radiation (20 shots) 3 years ago I now have radiation proctitus. I recently had flexi sigmoid which confirmed RP I was pretty much told I have to manage and live with it. Is there any more detailed info out there in particular diet advice.
many thanks for any help.
Hello James,
I developed RP. after radiotherapy and after 8 months I finally saw a gastrologist. He suggested a new treatment which was 4 sigmoidoscopies 4 weeks apart and during the procedure 'Purastat' was inserted. The bleeding and mucus started to subside after the 3rd treatment and after the 4th bleeding stopped completely. I also enrolled on the 'Colo-Spirit' research programme run by Newcastle University which is looking into the management of R. P. This treatment worked for me which was pleasing as I was desperate due to the constant bleeding from the rectum. It is certainly worth looking into.
Best wishes, Graham.
