  1. Just want to say that if you or your loved one is facing chemo then it doesn't have to be bad with lots of side effects. My husband has just had session number 4 out of 6 and is really well. The only slight side effect is a metallic taste which starts about 4 days after the session and lasts for about 7 days. He has the cold cap and so far no hair loss. No sickness or tiredness. The chemo he has is also given for breast cancer and lung cancer for example and the consultant said for some reason it can hit people with this type of cancer bad but not so much prostrate cancer. Must put my research hat on and find out why. I hope this gives just a bit of hope to someone out there who maybe facing this.
  • Hi Shar

What chemo did he have, I’ve had docetaxel hit me like a brick, just interested thank you.

    Stay ssafe

    Joe

  • Hi Joe, he is having docetaxel the same as you had. I am so sorry you had it so rough

  • I had my second of six doses on Wednesday.

I felt fine Thursday and Friday, A bit tired on Saturday and a bit of tummy upset on Sunday (yesterday). Some hair falling out but most of it still there. It hits everybody differently but my body seems to be tolerating it quite well. My sense of taste is a bit upset but I'm not sure if it's the Docetaxel or the Dexomethosone. My wife has had several Steroid treatments and she says it upsets her sense of taste.

  • Hi Shar- glad it’s going ok. My OH had same chemo and sane issues. Cold cap worked for him ( though apparently not a nice thing). Same issues with taste and gastric symptoms both constipated and the runs at times but got through it. Post treatment CT was good so on no. 14 of 20 radiotherapy sessions. All the best to all going through this both our men and us partners xx

  • Jo even my OH was the same, he had really bad symptoms after the 2nd dose, it hit him like a brick, at times the pain was so bad he couldn’t move.  he finished it in December and has since had radio, thankfully he is feeling ok so was worth it x

  • Hi all, my hubby has just finished  his 6 rounds. Apart from a hyper sensitive reaction on the first two ( as the chemo was going in) he has been on the whole better than we both thought he would be. We even managed a few days away in between treatments.  No hair loss, but he's facial hair has slowed down so he only has to shave once a week. He's been today for a follow up scan, results in 3 weeks.

  • great to hear chemo done and the side effects not as bad as you thought, my OH didn’t do as well but he’s doing ok now.  My husband didn’t get any scans after chemo, I believe he did get one before radio back in February,  I think scanning is different from area to area.  he lost his hair and beard but now through and even has more than he started with Smiley

I wish you both well x

  • I asked the consultant last week about a scan after chemo ends and he said they don't do it as the PSA is so reliable.

  • unfortunately we can’t rely on that as his PSA was only 3 when he was diagnosed with advanced cancer, they dismissed many symptoms over a 3 year period because it was low.  I have read of many guys this has happened to unfortunately.  He is getting 3 monthly appointments and if any new symptoms then they will scan ASAP, x

  • Hubby's psa was 170, now about 2.8. The consultant said having RT after scan results,  prostate was really large and swollen before.
