Just a wee update. My dad had his first consultation with the oncologist today. We got all the information we were looking for after weeks of worry. We were told it’s very early stage, it’s contained within the prostate. His Gleason score is 3+4. His PSA is 7. He’s been offered 3 months hormone treatment then 4 weeks radiotherapy. He has also been given the option of surgery but we won’t see that consultant until Thursday. He’s been told that because he’s very fit and otherwise healthy he should do well with either option but he’s still not sure yet what to go for. All in all I’d say we feel pretty lucky and relieved tonight. My dad feels very happy that it’s treatable and the outlook is good
That's very good news. The fact he's been offered the choice for his age shows he's a fit 71 year old. See the surgeon and then consider all the pros and cons of each treatment. which ever choice he takes I wish him and your family well. I have followed your story and I am pleased that although he's still on his journey you now have some answers.
Good luck with whichever choice he makes.
Brian.
