Think i have to choose RT and HT over surgery, as it seems too invasive. Age 58,group 2 gleeson 6 and no problems at present. Anything i need to know?
Good Evening Mart Welcome to our club. I know you didn't want to join. I am on HT/RT and am 12 month in - just on day 7 of my RT. My full journey is available if you click on the image of Oldeniz Beach.
We are all different. I wasn't given the option of surgery as it was thought the PC had spread but I didn't fancy surgery anyway as you say I thought it to invasive and I haven't had too many issues on the HT/RT route. All I can say is there are side effects but they but mine haven't been too bad. Anything specific you want to know just ask.
Best wishes on your journey. Kind Regards - Brian

Hi
For me, the worst side effect was the tiredness and fatigue. The effect of the RT goes pretty quickly but, as HT is for a longer period - in my case 2 years - the tiredness and fatigue last much longer. I completed my course Dec 2021 and I'm still no where near as fit as I was pre PC. The Cancer Nurses advised to try and keep going with any exercise regime I had been following - which is easier said than done! That said its good advice and I wish I had pushed harder.
Secondly, be aware the RT may have an effect on your bowels. Get hold of a diet sheet from the RT team and follow it religiously. I didn't over Christmas 2019 and it wasn't funny.
Good luck on your journey.
Regards
Stuart
I agree with Stuart about the tiredness and fatigue.
Don't regret taking the Hormones and Radiotherapy option though. I'm 11 months into Remission so I suppose the treatments did work.
The Hormones are finally leaving my system (13 months after the last injection). Woo-Hoo!!!
Some men don't get any side effects.
Just weigh up the pros and cons.
I never had the choice of surgery, think I am lucky there, don't know what I would have chosen.
Try to get into a support group. If you have a Maggie's near you, take a look there.
