Hi I just thought I would ask how everyone is doing? There haven't been many posts on here recently.

I have just had the 15th cycle of Avastin. The last one should be in early October.

I just have a few more days to work over the next 3 weeks before I start using up all of my owed holiday and then I leave at the end of September.

  • well done on working whilst having treatment. You should be proud of yourself. Hopefully a good result at the end with no further treatment required.

Been trying to get onto the forums but kept on getting error messages. Wonder if that is the same for others hence reason for no posts.

Hi Divingisfun, thank you for your reply. I hope you are well. It seems really quiet in this group. I didn't work whilst I was having chemotherapy and I didn't go straight back to work when the chemotherapy finished. That was partly because my body needed time to recover from the surgery and the chemotherapy plus I wanted to see how I would feel when having just Avastin treatment on its own. I had a few sessions with the fatigue clinic to help me get over the chemotherapy effects, so I started to get some energy back. Avastin on its own hasn't been too bad really and so I felt I could start doing some work, but almost all of it has been at home.

    Take care

  • Hi

Just seen the oncologist today, first time since before lockdown. Had my avastin cancelled due to coronovirus and side affects.

it was decided I shouldn’t go back on the avastin, so now I am just being monitored.
my latest blood tests showed my CA 125 was 9 and hasn’t changed since I had my debulking last November. The oncologist was really pleased with these results, and has said she is happy for me to go for three months before my next blood test.

i am feeling really Healthy and have  been walking often, weather permitting. Was always active before my diagnosis, so slowly building up my strength. Still not going to the gym, but can walk the distances I did before my diagnosis. If it wasn’t for coronavirus I am sure I could enjoy life more, but i am determined to make the most of the time I have before the dreaded illness starts up again, keeping positive.
Hope this gives some hope to others, keep strong and think positive

Hi Grammar, it's great to hear your update and I'm pleased that your CA125 level is normal. I'm sorry to hear that you had your Avastin cancelled.

It will be one year tomorrow since my interval debulking surgery. Not much of an anniversary but, when I think back to when I was first told about my potential diagnosis in May last year, I thought that my time was up back then.

Like you, I am keeping positive. I think the worries of COVID-19, as well as having to concentrate on work now, have taken over my thoughts. Those things have kind of blocked out the worries about my health status and future. I feel pretty good and most of the time I feel that I have to remind myself (even make myself believe) what has actually happened to me.

I know what you mean about getting on with life and that is what I want to do as soon as I have left work and finished the Avastin treatment. My main problems will be that I am a bit paranoid about COVID-19 and also that my confidence generally has taken a big knock during treatment.

Relapse doesn't happen to everyone, so I try not to think about that.

    Best wishes

  • That is so brilliant. I see-well have a phone consultation-with the oncologist at the end of next week. Having a blood test tomorrow. I last saw him 6 months ago but had a blood test 3 months ago which like yours showed I was stable. Keeping my fingers crossed for a good result.

It has got me thinking back to when I as first diagnosed and how far I have come since then. I was told the cancer was diffuse progressive and treatment would be palliative. Shortly after I as told they were working towards giving me time off treatment and that has been for 8 months now.
Not sure what happens next but I reckon the treatment plan seems to be going well. We are a special lot aren’t we? I still know no one locally who has had peritoneal cancer.
I had no problem with avastin when I was on it but after I did have trouble with aching muscles and joints. That has calmed down now. I just need the local pool to reopen so I can swim. My fitness regime of choice.
    keep safe everyone
