Delays in chemotherapy

I am diagnosed with primary peritoneal cancer. MDT was Thursday this week and the specialist nurse rang me after to discuss brief plan. I have not been given a date yet to see consultant but have been told it will probably be in 3 weeks. I think this is too long to wait and the specialist nurse thinks so. Has anyone else had a delay?

  • Having  your case put forward to an MDT is an extra step that many of us don't have to go through at the diagnosis stage.  Now it's down to the nuts and bolts of getting the chemo up and running. That initial consultant clinic is where you will do your consent forms and chemo should start very soon after.  If the specialist nurse didn't offer to try and pull the clinic date up, your only other option would be to contact the consultant's secretary. If you end up being stuck with the 3 week wait, then focus on making sure you have a chemo start date pencilled in so that there are no additional delays after the clinic.
