Hi everyone,

My hsband was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. This is all new to us. He isnt a candidate for surgery nor chemo. they have said its termnal with an estimated surival of  6 months. Tomorrow he is having  an edoscopy to have a stent fitted to his bile duct to ease his jaundice. The rest is an unknown to him and me. A MDT was apparently meeting last Thursday to discuss treatment if any but we've heard nothing from them so far.

He was only oin hospital a few days and was allowed home on Good Friday with a bag of 3 meds and told he would have the stent the following Thursday. that was all the info we were given. I had to chase up the time of procedure only to find it had to be delayed because nobody told hubby to stop taking ceratin meds.

Any advice on what questions to ask when he goes for his procedure tomorrow. Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

The following has already been mentioned:

Ask for referral to Fast Track continung heatlh care

Contact GP for referral to community based care or  palliative care nurse ( Macmilllan)

Any help  on what is likely to happen going forward would also be welcome because I want to support hubby as best I can, he is strugglng to come to terms with it all  and wont talk about it to anyone.

  • When I was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer I was also given 3 to 6 months by my local hospital and told there was nothing they could do. I had a drain fitted to remove bile from my stomach with a vague view of a stent later. Out of the blue I received a call from Royal London, a specialist hospital, to say surgery was possible, followed by chemotherapy. At the time I too refused to talk to anyone other than my husband - until I had time to process the information I just couldn’t face people. I went from no hope to all the hope in the world. This was some 3 years ago.  I truly hope this may be the case for your husband.

  • Thank you Molly. Unfortunately hubbby wasnt in a good health condition to begin with and has major mobility difficulties. He hasnt been in any pain so far which is a blessing.
