Hi, I have just been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer as the cancer has spread to my lungs. They can't operate and I have now been referred to a specialist regarding other treatments such as chemotherapy. I feel my life has ended now and if I haven't got long what is the point of trying to remain positive, although I want to keep going as long as possible for my husband and as I retire in 3 months to enjoy some hobbies and travelling.
Has anyone overcome such a terminal diagnosis as all I read on the internet seems so bleak.
Hi and a warm welcome to the Online Community. My heart went out to you as I read your post, to be given any cancer diagnosis is devastating especially when you are given a negative prognosis just before your retirement.
Scientific advances mean cancer is now recognised as a treatable disease. They may not be able to cure you but they can give what's called palliative chemotherapy - I'm attaching a link to some Reading material which you might helpful.
I would also suggest you join our supportive Living with Incurable cancer group where you will be able to chat to other members in the same position.
So stay positive and plan some of those hobbies.
Sending hugs, B xx

Jole, I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis. The reading material which MrsBJH recommends is very good. My experience with my husband when he was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer was that staying positive means that you can enjoy hobbies. Taking one day at a time is the best way.
Pancreatic Cancer UK has a good website and you might find it worthwhile chatting to one of their nurses on the helpline.

hi, please try to remain positive, PC is such a cruel disease. Everybody is different and perhaps and fingers crossed Chemo will work for you.
I promised my husband that we would beat cancer (sadly that wasn’t to be) but we made sure that we talked and made plans for the future, we had both just retired to move to Spain.
I hope the chemo works for you, it will be hard but remain positive. Make sure that you talk to friends and family how you are feeling.
Hello, i'm sorry that you find yourself here.
My dad has recurrent PC and tbh, the info is limited and conflicting. He also has a kidney tumour, which is now again, on a backburner due to the recurrence. He had the Whipple in Aug 2019, followed by Folfirinox.
Currently he is on Abraxane and the one beginning with G! And he has a scan tomorrow to see how the tumours are responding.
In the scheme of things, apart from a rough episode when he had sepsis, he is doing remarkably well and although gets fatigued, is doing what he wants to do. So, it seems a little surreal that he may not be with us this time next year.
Can I ask how your situation was, anyone who can advise, particularly when you knew things were going downhill, as in our position, everything is a waiting and guessing game which is very difficult.
Thank you.
Please try to keep positive, my pancreatic cancer came from kidney cancer l had a few years ago.l have always tried not to over think my situation and trust that my treatment will work and give me longer to enjoy life. Don't read too much on the internet, it can be bleak, speak to your cancer nurses who work with your doctor. I always found them so encouraging. I was able to have a op,which left me with quarter of my pancreous. But l just feel you must live each day and not think too far ahead.
