dear Kate and all,

I promised admin that I’d clean my act up and keep my interminable waffle in a separate thread....so others don’t have to read it. This was in another group.

Anyway, lovely day everyone. Chemo is being pretty rough on me below the waist. Haemorrhoids. Walking funny!

If anyone has any tips for this problem, please let me know.

    Hi Squeaky,

Well done you, writing up your thesis. I imagine it is painful but the result so worthwhile.  Oh gosh, everything has become so difficult. I went to hospital with my son. A nurse fitted me with a cannula and it looked as though my chemowould go ahead. There had been a slight improvement in the blood sugars to 9.9 from yesterday‘s reading  of 11. I know nothing about blood blood sugar, by the way. My ketones are also high. Anyway, the idea was to get the go-ahead from my consultant to have my chemo whilst investigating all my results. But nobody could contact her so by 10.45 off came the cannula as my drug expired at 11. I’m now scheduled for Tuesday and the results of some tests from yesterday and today will be ready...in particular a test for red blood cells, which seems to indicate a metastatic bone marrow problem and concerns  them a lot. i know it’s not looking good but I’m sort of getting used to it now, just wish I knew more. So it was home for rest and reflection. Son zoomed back to work, leaving me to try to catch up on lost sleep.

And Kate, do let us know how you got on.

Oh Pepys that’s crappy. It’s really unfair when you get geared up for chemo and don’t get it. As for the bone marrow well you’ve been facing it all so well why not wait until they tell you something concrete. I bet that’s easier said than done.

My dad is diabetic and has to try to stay between 4-6. 9-11 is high but not considered too dangerous.

We got on well with my mums oncologist today. Like I said it was just a chat he’s happy enough with how she’s getting on and has no problem with us going on holiday. One of my sisters has a house in France so we are planning a week in June. He said to do whatever sooner rather than later but says she is better than expected so we are all happy with that. My dad and I have decided that God isn’t ready for the hassle yet! Sorry we all need a little black humour every now and then.

Hope you get some proper rest tonight Pepys, always here if you want to chat.

Keep focusing on that glass of vino in Paris with your lovely brother and sister in law. Xx

    Hello Kate,

Yes, I read some scary stuff online about the nucleated red blood cells...which should not be there st all. But I feel s but too tired to worry much.  And I suppose there are all sorts of reasons for this.

Well, I read s bit about wing walking..extraordinary. I see with some surprise there’s a weight limit!! Not that I’m over it, just surprised. So most men wouldn’t be able to try it. Certainly not my three who are chunky young men. But Virgin’s limit is a little more generous. It would make a nice, though pricey, gift. I have a dreadful fear of heights so the shock would doubtless see me off! No wonder you’ve screamed a lot.

I am terribly pissed off by my sudden, though small, weight loss. My legs look pathetic and I will have to get myself out power walking again if my nice muscular calves are to return. I don’t feel much like eating though managed two slices of toast from my home made stiock and a scandishake. That’s at least a thousand calories, isn’t it?!

Lovely daughter in law dropping in soon. Between her pregnancy sickness and my general languor,  we’ll make a right pair.

I’ve let my son keep the car for today. He was at the surgery as soon as they opvned this morning, ordering my Creon, as I’ve let supplies get dangerously low. Both of us are  dreaming of a Mini Cooper (I have a reliable but boring Nissan). I guess you’d want something faster, Kate....

Right, time to heave myself up...I got lots of sleep yesterday and last night and time to do something...get my new plants into pots, for example.

Wishing you and Swuesky a great day. I’m wondering what to wear...must be getting better.

...that was Squeaky and not whatever gobbledygook I wrote...

  • Hi Pepys and Splodge

I'm sorry to hear of your hassles at the hospital, Pepys. Shame they couldn't find the consultant when she was needed.

Things looking not to bad for your Mum, Splodge.

I was out for a while and fat girl, Mimi has come looking for her tea. I have told her to look at her watch as its too early but I think she is goaded by the other two who are also queuing.

Although the sun is shining here it's also raining but that's Scotland for you.

Two hours of serious writing and then I'll get the cats their tea.

    Hello Squeaky,

    sunshine and rain? Typical Scotland.

yes, be firm with Greedy Girl. George has been trying to headbutt me into submission so I put him outside for a lovely walk. I’m working hard to tidy up before my family’s arrival. Quite a busy day today with visits from DIL, then a friend and husband and my son. So a full house Friend stayed to do some planting with me. I’m feeling rather whacked now. My brother and SIL arrive at 1 sm. I’m hoping for some decent weather tomorrow so we can sit out for breakfast.

Health-wise, feeling OK. I was tired this morning then scared myself half to death by reading about nucleated red blood cells. One academic article mentioned that they were often seen three weeks or less before desth. Quickly stopped reading!

Hi, Everyone, just thought I would drop in and tell you about our cats. Tilly, we have decided is our 'assistance cat'....... Last Thursday morning I was at work, and agreed to meet my husband at the hospital for his radiotherapy and appointment with the consultant. No problem, except he fell asleep....... only to be woken by Tilly giving him a real nudge at 2pm, the time he needed to leave to get to the hospital!!!!

She is a lovely cat, follows me around, checking what I am doing etc. She has just discovered the window sill in our lounge, so she can 'wave goodbye'....

My husband is coping well with his radiotherapy, and is over half way through his treatment.

Thanks to everyone for making me smile, and sending hugs to all

    Hi Tilly,

I’m always amazed by how intuitivev some cats are, even my George, who often appears to have only one motivation. His dinner plate. But when I came out of hospital in January 2017, started coming to sit right in front of me, staring into my eyes for ages. I wondered if he sensed something was wrong and friends started to comment on it. Mind you, once or twice he has also leapt onto my poor pancreas from the arm of the settee...and he’s no lightweight!

    Hi all

Tilly sounds like a very useful cat to have around. I’m really pleased your husband is coping well with his treatment. Onwards and upwards.

Squeaky I am very impressed with your dedication to your studies. I love history but don’t have much time. When I go on holiday I catch up on my reading the Tudours and Stewart’s are my favourite periods, so gruesome.

Now Pepys what are you doing scaring yourself with Dr Google? No good ever comes from that. Other than that your day sounds lovely. There’s nothing nicer than a full house. You must be so excited for your brother and sil visiting.

Leave the worrying to your drs. You put all of your energy into living (and building those legs of yours back up). I’m glad you managed to get some sleep last night.

    Love to all xx

Shame I can’t spell Stuart’s when I love to read about them lol.

We had a lovely time last night planning our trip to France. When my mum told her oc she was going away he said good for you. Last year he strongly advised against it but I guess it’s because she was having treatment. He has cut her steroids down to 1mg I suspect because she was pretty much flying. Its great to see after she was so sick for so long but she’s a little too enthusiastic about everything right now. I keep telling her to go easy as my poor dad can’t keep up. Yesterday she said “don’t worry I’ll slip him a Micky” I spat my drink out with laughing so much I’ve no idea where she got that from.

Quite night in the bar tonight so I’ve closed up early. Just as well as I have a friend coming to stay for the weekend and my flat is a disgrace. Better start the cleaning then
