Hi is there anyone here who has a diagnoses same as mine and did chemo get rid of most of cancer to be able to have surgery?

Diagnosed Stage lV high grade serous carcinoma of the ovary/peritoneum HRD positive, germ line BRCA wild type BRACA negative. Bilateral multiloculated solid/ cystic adnexal masses arise from the ovaries. The left is posterior to the uterus and measures 8 × 5 x 6cm. The right is anterior to the uterus and rises into the right iliac fossa.
It measures 15 x 13 x 10 cm. Aspects of it have incomplete septi suggesting fallopian tube involvement. MRI liver showed indistinct small lesion suspicious of liver metastasis Lesion in adrenal gland suspicious for adrenal metastases with bulky with bilateral malignant looking adnexal lesion with lots of omental in the peritoneal with bulky pelvis and retroperitoneal nodes.

    1. Yes it did for me had 4 rounds then 3 after hope it helps xx
  • Hello there - and yes for me, chemo removed the bad cells allowing me to have surgery. I had stage IV ovarian diagnosed Oct '24, weekly chemo started Dec '24 to heavily reduce cancer cells (markers came right down :) then in March '25 a full abdominal hysterectomy. 6 weeks of recovery then post surgery commenced with chemo again. My chemo consisted of three different infusions and my ca marker further dropped considerably. I too had lesions (liver and lung) which have since gone,  A few months ago I was on only one chemo infusion every three weeks and my last one is next week. I'm in remission. I hope in someway that this may provide you with some reassurance and of course wishing you well x

  • Did you have lymph node involvement to?

  • Did they tell you at beginning that surgery wouldn't benefit you and did you have lymph nodes involved?

  • Also was you high grade or low grade and was you BRACA or HRD positive?

  • Also was you high grade or low grade and was you BRACA or HRD positive?

  • I know exactly how you feel !!

  • Hello again, no lymph involvement, also in reply to your other question, my tumour genomics BRCA1 & 2 wild types; HRD positive. Additionally, my chemo fusions were carboplatin/paclitaxel/bevacizumab which did remove alot of the cancer cells prior to surgery.

  • I have a lot of lymph nodes involved. Hoping chemo clears it. My chemos are Paclitaxel and Carboplatin. He said i could have had Bevacizumab as well, but he said it's of minimal benefit and said I could have it after chemo with maintenance drug. At present he does not recommend surgery. He said I wouldn't benefit from it as they like to get all visible disease. He did say they will discuss it again after my scan this Friday. So fingers crossed that most cancer as cleared for me to be able to have surgery.

  • As I understand it (and in my case but we are all different!), the chemo can be very effective at reducing/clearing much of the cancer and with the regular monitoring of scans and blood tests which I assume you're having, it maybe that you would not need surgery; your oncologist & team will guide you though their treatment plan for you seeing how your body responds and making any adjustments if required. If ongoing monitoring is looking good and if your oncologist advises then surgery will happen - you would need to allow time to recover post surgery before potentially more chemo. I am now on a maintenance target treatment drug /pill which is called olaparib (parb inhibitor) for another year. I do remember my oncologist wanting to take things step by step as the body is undergoing a heavy amount of treatment but your oncology team and support nurses should be offering you support and care too? Keep asking the questions to your team (I'm a great believer in being in a positive mindset!) and if I can help further please just message :) Good luck with the scan on Friday, you've got this! x
