Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else is out there with T1 diabetes and Cancer, even better if it’s someone with LGSOC too. I have recently been diagnosed Feb 25 and have my ultra radical debulking surgery next week. Any tips welcome and esp in managing the diabetes along side. Thanks in advance.
I’m a LADA diabetic, moving gradually from T2 to T1 they think. I had ovarian cancer diagnosed last Jan and by end August last year had had the big debulking op and 6 lots of chemo. I wd say make absolutely sure everyone knows you are diabetic first and foremost. With the chemo they give you steroids which massively affect your blood sugar. It was overlooked in my case for the first lot so I ended up on insulin where previously I had just been on Metformin.
In hospital get extra fave food/nuts/soup brought in.
i was so desperate to get out of hosp i prob came out too soon and got a seroma which burst and i had a leaking wound for five months. I believe that slow healing was due to being a diabetic so be patient and don’t over do it.
im fine now apart from fatigue really. Good luck! Be patient, grit your teeth & you’ll be through and out the other side in no time!
