Hello all, I was diagnosed with endometriod ovarian cancer in Feb 2019 stage 2b, had a radical hysterectomy followed by chemo. I'm now a year cancer free yay! But I want to keep it that way. My consultant says it was a hormone based cancer oestrogen positive 7/8 and not to have any oestrogen based medications. It occurred to me after my appt about diet. Can my diet affect oestrogen? Tried googling but as we all know throws up confusion and inaccuracies.

  • Really pleased to hear you've been cancer free for a year.  I too was recently diagnosed (November 2021) with endometrioid ovarian cancer (stage 1c2) and received the same advice that you have, i.e. to avoid oestrogen based medications.

In your post you mention that your consultant said you had a hormone based cancer oestrogen positive 7/8.  May I ask what does the 7/8 refer to please?

Sorry that I can't answer your query regarding your diet however I'm sure one of the many supportive women on here will be able to help you.  However, if this helps, due to having a hysterectomy I immediately went into a surgical menopause and my consultant did say to avoid oestrogen supplements as I had wondered if I were to experience any menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes or night sweats whether I would be able to take supplements instead of oestrogen based medication but I was told to avoid these supplements.

    Wishing you all the best.

  • Hello , I'm battling to post a link for you on this very topic.

I went on a webinar last week by a specialist dietitian who works on this very topic. It won't let me post the link for some reason. It's on the charity group on FB called The Ovarian Cancer Community (which is Target Ovarian) , on that you can watch the webinar which covered ovarian cancer and diet . It was very interesting. Failing that the lady who set it up , her name is Grace and this is her address GThorner@targetovariancancer.org.uk , she will send you the link. Hope I've helped.
