Cold cap

Please can anyone kindly share their experience of using a cold cap to prevent hair loss when receiving chemo with Paclitaxel and Carboplatin?

  • I used the cold cap. It’s cold LOL but only for a short period then I found it weared off about 10-15 mins.

I did it as I didn’t want to regret any of my decisions. I tried everything they threw at me!

It did help but I still got bald patches - who knows why! And it shred straight away within the first 7-10 days. Clumps of hair. That wasn’t nice to see. I was heartbroken.

BUT it is growing back now slowly! I’ve currently got ‘curtain hair’ but it is what it is and I’m here to tell the story!xx

  • I did it all the way through.  I have a big shed after the first round and gradually lost more.  It didn’t all go but I reckon I lost 75%. It grew back reasonably but the growth on the crown is much less than the sides and back.  I blogged about this in my Size of a Melon blog on Substack (with photos) if you want more detail.

  • Thank you - very helpful.

  • Thank you. It seems like a lot of extra time and stress for an imperfect result.

  • I was worried by the rare side effect of permanent hair loss.  So I persevered.  Nevertheless crown growth is slow, as mentioned.

  • Hi, so sorry I had replied but seems like I didn’t confitm!

had same drugs as you, Lost about 25% of hair but not for some time as was on weekly chemo.  Definitely worth persevering in my opinion as had no bald patches.  Was tough for first ten minutes then fine.  I also used a hair growth serum ‘Champú’ pitta serum which helped a lot, my hair is now thicker than before,

whatever your choices are I hope it all goes well x
