I had my rounds of chemo and surgery last year. I was in remission until around June this year and they are giving monthly injections for 6months . I guess they want to shrink a little tumor that came back before the hernia surgery. Any tips on managing this very uncomfortable hernia and chemotherapy at the same time. I really feel down and miserable

  • Hi FaithfullGod

I am sorry to hear that you have such an uncomfortable hernia and are going through chemotherapy at the same time.

My chemo was for endometrial cancer in 2022 and it is often the same chemo as for ovarian cancer. I had carboplatin and paclitaxel. I know from experience that chemo can make you feel pretty rough and uncomfortable and I can imagine that being so uncomfortable with the hernia is making things harder. It is understandable that you are feeling down and miserable.

Have you spoken to your CNS about how you are feeling?

Is there anything that your GP can suggest to add support to the hernia? I wonder whether there may be a type of support belt/dressing to help keep it supported.

May I suggest that you give the Support Line a call and talk to one of the nurses as they may be able to suggest other things that may help.

In the meantime if the discomfort becomes worse or if it changes in anyway, becomes a severe or sharp pain, becomes swollen and bulging then I would suggest getting medical advice straight away, via NHS111.

The link above has some advice that may be helpful, however I do recommend giving the Support Line a call and just talking things through.

I hope you can feel more comfortable soon.
