Hi, new to this group. Well where do I start, been sick with worry from the day I started bleeding and my worry and fear has hit an all time high since my ca125 level from blood test came back at 10went gynaecologist today and had Ava final scan which showed I had a cyst on my ovaries and I’ve been referred for a mri. I can’t eat, having trouble sleeping and I’m Petrified I have cancer. Right
ow I’m on a all time low.
Hi Kimmy43
I have just responded on your post in the womb group.
CA125 is a marker that is used routinely during testing however a level of 35 and under is fine.
Jane
Raised level can be caused by cysts and various other things. Its just a marker, so a higher level would suggest further investigation. And that is what has happened with the scan. The mri is to take a closer look at the features of the cyst as there are different types.
I hope you are coping with the stress. I had an ovarian cyst and my CA125 was 7 and has never been elevated ( my oncologist says CA125 was developed for the common ovarian cancers and is not a relatable one in rare ones like mine - I’m just not responsive to it). My pathway involved an internal and external pelvic ultrasound (they use the ORAD scale to measure cancer likelihood and mine was the top one - 5). Next step was a CT. Not sure why you are not having these. Is it your GP or a hospital gynaecologist that sent you for an MRI? If it were me, to have complete reassurance, I’d want an ultrasound and CT. Good luck.
