Went to my gp few weeks back with some ongoing acid reflux, bloating and weight loss (only 7 pounds ish). She requested bloods and a pelvic ultrasound to rule out a few things she said. So I had the bloods on the Tuesday, ultrasound in the Thursday. All very quick I was impressed. Person who did the ultrasound scan told me looks normal but couldn’t find right ovary, not uncommon in post menopause woman. Doctors rings and asks me to come in to discuss results. My ca125 was higher than it should be. Tells me I need to be seen by gynaecologist on the 2 week wait. Sends me a text link to cancer research uk explains what a 2 week wait was etc.
now my confusion is that surely if my ultrasound was normal I should just of had these bloods repeated in days month?. I was a bit dumb struck at the appointment and wish I’d asked.
anyone else referred on ca125 test alone?
thanks x
Hello Beclex
it sounds like they are being extra cautious to make sure nothing is missed?
Where there are symptoms that potentially could be connected with cancer a 2 weeks referral is normal. It does not mean that there is necessarily cancer present. It is good that you will be checked thoroughly and quickly.
I had the ca125 test for my cancer (womb) and it was used regularly throughout treatment. It did go up and down but was told that is it went above a certain amount (I believe it was 35) then I would need more checks/monitoring. It would have been, in my case, a CT scan. However they also said that there were other potential reasons where it could vary.
It is reassuring that the person who did your ultrasound felt it was ok, but a raised level plus some bloating, reflux and some weight loss are good enough reasons to have a full check up with a gynaecologist.

Hi
Yes I was referred on a ca125 test. Had an ultra sound and they couldn’t see one of my ovaries either. By the time I’d got to the hospital appointment I looked like I was 9 months pregnant with ascites so knew there was something very wrong going on!! I’m guessing they will probably do a ct scan if they couldn’t see anything on the ultra sound though I guess it might depend how high the ca125,is, mine was 1751. Hope everything turns out to be ok for you
Diney thanks for taking time to reply. My ca125 was 59 so not very high. I think im just surprised that I presented to gp with what i thought was a stomach/acid reflux problem, to then be on a 2ww and things moving so quickly. But I’m glad it’s being looked into. Hopefully ruled out. Thanks again and I hope you’re well x
That’s really quite low and tbh this awful disease is usually not diagnosed till it’s quite advanced so if it’s anything nasty best to know quickly. There can be other reasons you have a raised ca125 as well. Have to say mind that I thought I had a bowel condition so was really confused to be fast tracked to gyni too!!!!!
Hoping it all turns out to be ok for you x
Me, I went to Dr with bloating and had bloods my ca125 was 2580, same as you bloods, ct scan, acities was bad by this stage, couldn't see one of my ovaries cos things didn't look good in there, was diagnosed eventally
Then my journey started,
Hopefully you get results and answers soon
I don't want to tell you ally story cos it would frighten the life out of anyone.
