Hi

I have recently been diagnosed with stage 1C, grade 1 ovarian cancer. I have received advice from a surgeon to go for chemotherapy but consultant oncologist Suggested that I would not benefit from chemotherapy

i would be interested to know what experience with the chemo treatment the members of the forum have who have had similar diagnosis. What experience you can share if you did not go for chemotherapy with this diagnosis.

Many thanks

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I don't have the experience you're looking for but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily spotted.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and tests so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi Health1,

I had suspected 1C (which turned out to be 1A) so our experiences don’t exactly align but regardless my doctors were always very keen on an aggressive surgical approach to remove the affected ovary.
From that, I can say the surgical approach was effective and positive for my own self but every experience will be unique and different.

Sorry I can’t be of more help and sending thoughts and prayers your way.

  • Hi coulcyster

Thank you for your reply, I am sorry I was not able to reply back as I had to go back to hospital after developing some post surgery complications. Thankfully I am back home now and will be seeing my consultant to further discuss my treatment.

    best wishes

  • Hello, I am stage 1c ovarian cancer (sub-type endometrioid) and chemotherapy was recommended to me.  I was recommended the chemo drug carboplatin (no hair loss with carboplatin).  If I had been stage 3 I would have also need the chemo drug paclitaxel/taxol (which does cause hair loss.

Standard treatment is chemo (carboplatin) for stage 1c.

I found the treatment highly manageable.  A bit of constipation (but easily sorted out with stool softener and laxative but as I didn't feel sick from the chemo it was suggested to me at the hospital that I would be better not taking the anti-sickness tablets and then of course I didn't suffer from the constipation).

What sub-type of ovarian cancer are you?
