Hi i’m new to this diagnosis in December 25 started on Hydroxycarbamide 500mg! I dont know what to say I just feel a little lost

  • Hi there

im ET JAJ2+ & like you it was a bit of a shock to find out about the condition

  • There’s lots of support out there. Don’t be overwhelmed by it & seek help if you need it.
Look at MPN Voice or Leukaemia Care websites as I found both sites helpful. There’s a group on Facebook called ESSENTIAL THROMBOCYTHAEMIA UK which I joined & it’s really helpful.
I started off on aspirin in 2016 but am now on Pegasys injections as BESREMI / Pegasys have brought my platelets right back down.
MacMillan are amazing too - they can support you with benefit applications/ reviews.

it can feel overwhelming at first & a shock but don’t stress too much as that can elevate your platelets too. It’s classed as a blood cancer, so you are entitled to free prescriptions (you just ask the GP for a form). Also, don’t be surprised if you feel more tired than usual - fatigue is one of the biggest things I suffer from (some days are better than others). Your employer is also there to support you & should put steps in place.

There’s a very helpful chap in the community too who often responds to questions and he helped put my mind at rest over a few things.

    hope this helps
