Hi everyone.
My story so far is that I had this irritated throat for a couple of months. Maybe longer. Had 2 courses of antibiotics but nothing cleared it. It wasn't painful, it was just there. Although I had this weird looking thing on my tonsil.
Eventually got to see a specialist at ENT to be told I had a cancer on my tonsil. Not the best of news the day before your 50th birthday. And of coutse you think the worst. Life changer.
They did a biopsy there and then. No messing around. A week later I went back to be told, all change, wasn't going to have an op to remove bad tonsil, as the biopsy and blood test revealed I have Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. To cut a long story short, within 3 weeks and 2days,i had my first appointment, pet ct scan, bloods etc, and was on my first Chemo treatment. I'm on Rchop.
I've had my first treatment which went as well as could be expected. No sickness. Get tired pretty quick and legs ache alot, but can't moan so far. I'm having 6 cycles every 3 weeks. I'm sure it's going to be a bumpy ride. On the 2week recovery at the moment before round 2.
Throat feels pretty good. Long may it continue.
Hope everyone on here is doing well, and sending best wishes.
Hi Gruffalo and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.
I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ may be different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.
There are over 60 types and sub-types of Lymphoma..... do you know the exact one you have?
Most types of Low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma are seen as being incurable (like my type) but very treatable but a good number of types of High-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma are initially treated looking to cure...... and R-CHOP is one of the many treatments available and on the whole these are rather effective.
Good that your first cycle was ok and you had no real Side Effects but Fatigue tends to be the most common and will increase as your cycles go on but do try and keep some regular activity going as this actually does help overcome part of the fatigue.
I had the big brother of R-CHOP - R-EPOCH back in late 2013/2014 and honestly I did well during it all and this was with me having 6 cycles that had me in hospital 6 nights/5 days on my 2 IV pumps 24/7 for over 120hrs each treatment........ R-CHOP is nothing like this so let's look for a smooth ride.
My story is rather complicated (See my story) as I had to go onto other treatments but I am now 7 years 9 months out from my last treatment, will turn 68 in Nov and doing great.
Always around to help more or just to chat.
Hi Mike
Thanks for the reply and so glad to see yiuve come out the other side of this, with a positive story to tell.
I've got high grade lymphoma and got a week or so without meds, so giving work a go this week. Light duties.
There are a few different types of high grade and although it’s a fast growing type the treatment is very effective…… just watch out for infection risks as you are more open at about days 7-14 post treatment.
Hi Mike thenks for getting back I dont go out on puublic transport or where there are large groups of people when I have had the treatment to avoid getting any infections plus I can work from home at these times.Hope all is well with you and reading your story give me the strenght to fight this.
Have agreat Day.
