Hi all,
My wife received her diagnosis of high-grade NHL today. It's what we were expecting but it did come as a bit of a shock all the same. She's not a native Brit and has gone back to her home country to have a second biopsy and start treatment. It was tough not being with her when the news came through.
Her results did also mention 'double-expression' of MYC and BLC2 which I believe worsens prognosis a bit. They've not done a FISH test (but she will be getting one for her second biopsy), but as far as I understand this could mean 'double-hit' NHL which seems rarer and with a worse prognosis. The waiting is not fun but thankfully she's a very optimistic person and there's enough spare to rub off on me.
Nice to meet you all anyway and thanks for the loads of informative posts on the site.
Adam
Hi plaswuff and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am sorry to hear about your wife’s diagnosis. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.
I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare, incurable but treatable low grade NHL (Stage 4) so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.
Double-hit and triple-hit lymphomas is not that unusual and we have had a few folks through the group over the past years in the same position so let’s see if they are still looking into the site.
In the UK, Lymphoma is the 5th most common type of cancer so this brings the benefits of research and treatment developments…… and even with some of the very rare types of lymphomas (like my 7 in a million) there are always treatments with good results.
Always around to chat.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
