I've just had my first chemo, I've not drinking tea and I'm not really fancying food. Is there any recommendations please and did anyone not sleep as well too.
Hi Jac69 and welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.
I was diagnosed back in 1999 with a rare, incurable type of NHL Stage 4a so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ may be different from yours I, like many in the group understand the challenges of the journey well.
First drinking is ever so important, what ever you drink you do need to aim for at least 2 litres each and every day until you have completed all your treatments. This is the main tool you have to protect your kidneys from the toxic effects of the chemo by flushing you kidneys.
Try some carbonated water/juice as I found that worked ok….I also was off tea and coffee….. I am a coffee addict
Not fancying food is normal so eating anything at any time is important. Your body needs fuel to get through this.
I worked on a small and often rule, I never even tried to sit down to a plate of food. So we always had some home made soups that I could have a cup at any time. Mince and Mash was another as it could be made and kept ready to have a small plate at any time. Try things you have never eaten before - you will be surprised……. but do remember that what ever you eat needs to fit into a pregnant diet.
Sleep disruption is unfortunately part of the journey especially when you are on the steroids. You sleep when you can but I did set an alarm on my phone during the day when I felt I was nodding off just to try and limit the sleep I had during the day to help get some sleep at night……. and you can talk with your clinical team about temporarily getting ‘something’ to help you sleep during your treatment.
This link from the Lymphoma Action website Side Effects of Treatments helps unpack the various challenges.
So we can help more what actually type of NHL do you have and what treatment are you having?
Always around to help and listen.
Thank you so much, I'll get my soup maker out. I'm drinking water too. Xxx
