Had 2 sessions of chemo. How do others cope? I feel so poorly-bad headaches, nausea and excessive gas! Beginning to wonder if it’s worth itSlight frown Does anyone have any advice please!

  • Hi  and it looks like your first post so welcome.

Beginning to wonder if it’s worth it

Reflect on this statement for a few minutes and tell me its NOT worth it.

    What chemo are you having?

What type of NHL do you have?

Advice?..... you will feel poorly and have headaches but do remember that your body is going through a lot but it is all temporary, its not forever.

Nausea, remember not to suffer in silence when it comes to nausea there are lots of tools available - but your team need to know how you are getting on.

Fatigue may well build up over time so take each day as it comes but at the same time keep some activity going as this does actually help overcome some of the fatigue.

I would also highlight the importance of drinking lots of water. 1 to 2 Litres every day during and between treatments as this will flush out all the toxins released by the chemo and protects your kidneys and most likely help your headaches and excessive gas.... but talk to your team about these as there are tools that can be used.

If you look at my profile (hit my name) you will see I had over 750hrs of chemo as part of my complicated treatment journey, yes there were challenges but the treatment did what it said on the tin.

In way of some encouragement. I was diagnosed in 1999 with a rather rare and difficult to treat Stage 4a Low Grade Cutaneous T-Cell (skin) Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I was told “Mike, I am sorry to tell you that this type of NHL is incurable, yes treatable but you will never be in remission”...... but after years of various treatments in September 2016 I was told I was in remission for the first time in 17 years - and I am living the dream....... and eventually you will.
