NET tumours & renel cell carcinoma

Hi there,

I was diagnosed with NET tumours in various places in my body (liver, breast, eye, pancreas, brain & bones) liver being the worst. I recently have been made aware that I now have a stage 1 renel cell tumour 2.5cm x 3.5cm. I wasnt give 2 options for treatment which is to have a partial robotic nephrectomy or cryotherapy. I chose to have it removed surgically, on the day of my surgery I was so overwhelmed when the surgeon said he was looking at removing the whole kidney as the tumour is in the middle of my kidney so it would be the easier thing. The surgeon could see I was upset and advised me to talk to a doctor about cryotherapy to see if I was more happy with that option rather then surgery. I have been told that if I have cryotherapy the chances of my kidney still working are very very slim because of where the tumour is.

Im still waiting to see the doctor for this discussion and to have a more in depth conversation.

Another thing I have just been made aware of is my oncologist has suggested I start zoledronic acid to help with my bones. Im quite open to try if it helps. Only thing is I have been reading up on it and a side effect is damage to kidneys. My concern is, if I was left with 1 kidney is it really suitable to take zoledronic acid as dont want to damage my healthy kidney.

Im really finding this all very overwhelming and struggling mentally. I feel like noone in my family truely understands and i cannot talk about it. Just some advise would be amazing

How was the side effects after your zoledronic infusion?

Has anyone had a partial nephrectomy, how did that go with recovery etc?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I've had 6-monthly infusions of zoledronic acid for 3 years now, as adjuvant treatment for breast cancer, and haven't had any side effects that I'm aware of.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'.
