Suspected to have a Neuroendocrine Tumour

I’ve had some investigations after a positive FIT test. I had a normal colonoscopy but I’ve steadily become more unwell. At my last appointment, the consultant asked me to do a 5HIAA test as I said I’ve been getting hot flushes, night sweats, nausea, vomitting, abdominal pain etc. She told me to get the test/container from pathology. I did and no one told me how to do it and there were no instructions. I’m worried I didn’t do the test correctly.

Anyway, the results say it’s 10.9mol/24h which I have seen online seems normal? It also says that creatinine was measured.

Anyway, why would my consultant still say I could have a carcinoid tumour as I thought the urine 5HIAA was indicative of that? She’s booked me in to have a small bowel MRI.

I’m slightly confused and worried that the 5HIAA results may not be accurate. I have another appointment next week I’m just quite anxious about it all.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I can't help with your question but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where hopefully it'll be seen by someone who can help.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could pop something about your  diagnosis and tests so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
