Does anyone have experience of infection arising some time after SLNB? I had three lymph nodes removed from my groin five weeks ago, mercifully they showed no evidence of spread. However, I visited the plastic surgery outpatients today because of redness and tenderness at the top of my leg near my scar. The nurse thinks it is a skin infection and they wanted to admit me. I was rather in shock and reluctant so persuaded them to give me antibiotics and I returned home. I am to go back for a check up later this week and told to go to A&E if my leg gets worse in the meantime.
I had infection in my WLE site during the two weeks post-op while clips were in, and went on oral antibiotics that cleared it up, but after the clips came out the wound dehisced, I suspect due to the infection. There was nothng else that they cold have done. I also had repeated infections following an inguinal node dissection, with four hospital admissions for IV antibiotics (twice after oral antibiotics). All I would say is if it gets worse don't hang around and get it checked out, better to spend a night or two admitted for IV antibiotics than risk it getting worse and causing further issues.
