Hi

I had small mole on right side of chin didn’t hurt or itch skin unbroken had been there a couple of years I had a small scar there from an abscess in my teenage years but in August last year it changed shape slightly  but decided no harm in getting a check on it went to GP in December they said it did look suspicious and was 4mm wide so did 2 weeks referral and within 2 weeks removed same day I went to the hospital the long wait to April for results was difficult it was diagnosed as desmoplastic melanoma I was then booked for wider excision and sentinel node removal because mole was 2.3mm deep putting me in intermediate risk category this was done in June then the long wait again got my results on Monday and am now cancer free at the moment The procedure was done under general anaesthetic  and was 2.5 hours I have been totally pain free and the flap done by a very skilled plastic surgeon is healing beautifully they used attached from my neck to do the flap so no skin graft required and every effort was made to use my natural facial lines to help hide scar To remove node behind my ear scar is just under my jaw line along neck so is not seen really an excellent job by the NHS and tbh the support from the hospital has been incredible I will now be monitored for 5 years but ok by me hope I stay melanoma free it’s such a bloody crafty cancer

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to our corner of the online community.

That's great news that you're currently NED (no evidence of disease) and that you've had such good treatment from the NHS.

    Best wishes
