Body mapping

I have just had an appointment with my plastic surgeon, he was only checking my WLE and my SLN scars. I asked him if I would be having some kind of body mapping as I have many moles and could become quite paranoid about their appearance.
apparently this should be done with my dermatologist but I haven’t got a follow up appointment with them. I have been told that this isn’t something the Royal Marsden does.
has anyone here had any mapping done of their moles or is this something I have invented.

  • Hi

I have had follow-ups for melanoma with two different consultants at two different hospitals and neither did "body mapping".

Your plastic surgeon is right that the check-ups are done by your consultant dermatologist and not by him. How often they happen depends on your staging.

At my first check-up my dermatologist told me that the best way to keep an eye on my moles in between seeing him was to take photos of each area of my body, ie upper left arm, lower left arm, front upper leg, etc and then use those to compare my moles every month. That way it is easy to see if a mole has changed or a new one has appeared.

  • Thank you Latchbrook. That is an idea, it might take all the memory on my phone as I have many, many moles. I remember the dermatologist asked me if I had any moles on my legs to which I answered no… when I got home I thought I should check just to make sure and I had 24 on one leg and 19 on the other…… how on earth did I miss them. I will take some pics just to keep an eye on things.
