Hi I’ve just been told that I’m going to be offered the above treatment for metastatic melanoma. I recently had a lymph node dissection and thankfully it hadn’t spread any further. Would like to hear from others who have been on this oathway

 thank you

  • Hi

I haven't had targeted therapy but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

While you're waiting for replies you could take a look through some of these previous posts which mention targeted therapy if you want to.

    Wishing you all the best

  • Hi Doulou,

I'm most of my way through (cycle 11 of 12) targeted therapy for Stage 3a Acral Lentiginous Melanoma that had spread to 2 SNLN's with the BRAFv600e gene mutation. I was offered both immunology and targeted therapy, but opted for the later. Its been great as a treatment option as I havent had to keep going to the hospital for treatment. I have been on tablets everyday and they generally only prescribe a month at a time, they keep an eye on your bloods (monthly blood tests) and they are very good at jumping on any potential side effects. Had one episode where I had to come off them for 2 weeks but on the whole, I have had very few or only minor side effects, although everyone will be different and it will also depend on what targeted therapy you are going to be offered. They are really tailored programmes so it's not easy to always compare experiences.

There is loads of information online when you know the option they are suggesting, but do be sensible when reading about it. Stick to the well respected research papers and websites.

Best of wishes with the process and the treatment

  • Thank you for your reply and good to hear you are doing well. I’m seeing the oncologist on Friday and have been told I will be offered either immunotherapy or targeted therapy so I’m waiting to see what she says although I’m really more likely to opt for the TT. I’ve previously had breast cancer then lung cancer with part of lung removed and now this which started as a freckle on the top of my foot. I’m sure the oncologist will bear all this in mind when considering next treatment steps.

i wish you all the very best and hope for positive news. Take very good care of yourself Christmas treeMrs claus

  • Hi - I'm new to the group but was diagnosed with Stage 3C melanoma in July. It has the BRAF mutation so i chose targeted therapy over immunotherapy. i have been on Dabrafenib and Trametinib for 4 months and so far have had no major problems apart from fatigue. My neutrophil count has been dipping a bit as well, but hopefully this is temporary. Good luck with the treatment! and take care.
