I'd obviously be MM free but have been recently diagnosed with pt1a and having a WLE next week. I have two critical illness policies with AIG and Arriva. Has anyone had a successful claim with pt1a previously?
Hi BEX1011 and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with melanoma and I know what a shock this will have been for you. However, it looks like it's been caught very early so hopefully the WLE will be the only treatment that you'll need. I've had this procedure and I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about it.
I didn't have any critical illness cover in place at the time of my melanoma diagnosis so can't share any experience of that with you. However Ragirl posted about the possibility of claiming only a couple of weeks ago so I've 'tagged' her into this conversation and hope she'll pop on and tell you how she's got on.
Macmillan have this information about claiming on critical illness cover which you might find useful and you can also post any questions on this topic in the ask a financial guide section of the community.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi There
My policy was with Canada Life, but I have just heard at the end of last week that it was successful. It took about 6 weeks as they wanted to check information with my specialist, but It was approved. It will depend on the exact wording of your cover as to whether you are successful - mine covered if the melanoma had been histologically classified as invaded beyond the epidermis. Stage 1a and above meets the criteria.
So I would say contact the companies involved and check their exact criteria - no harm in trying, after all you have paid for the policies. Remember they are for critical illness not terminal illness and you are entitled to be paid out if you meet their criteria.
I hope it helps, good luck with your recovery.
My policy was with Aviva and they pad out straight away, the process was smooth and took a couple of weeks Start to finish. My other policy is with AIG who are dragging their feet somewhat and keep telling me it will be a few more weeks before its assessed.
Aww that’s great to hear, best of luck with AIG!
I spoke with Aviva yesterday and apparently they’re waiting on my GP report but GP said it was sent early December… Reassuring that they paid out for you though!
Hope your WLE was okay and best of luck on your recovery xx
