Hi everyone,
I’ve just had a mole on my back removed under the two week referral rule. The dermatologist appointment has scared me senseless. She wasn’t meant to remove it on my first appointment but she obviously found it suspicious enough that she wanted it removed there and then. She also mentioned something along the lines of ‘looks like we may have caught it early’ and she told me that I would need to come back to get more skin removed. I left the appointment scared and upset and not expecting that sort of feedback on my first appointment. She pretty much confirmed to me that I have Melanoma and now it’s just a case of waiting for the results to see how bad it is. I can’t sleep or eat or face going out anywhere at the moment. It’s absolute torture. I guess I just would like to know if anyone had similar feedback from the dermatologist and what it turned out to be? Can they really know just by looking at it?
Any information or advice would be much appreciated thank you x
Hi
Welcome and sorry you’re having to be here. I’m not surprised that appointment has freaked you out somewhat. The prospect of melanoma is scary, particularly when you’re having to wait for results.
I don’t think dermatologists can ever tell for certain just by looking, but obviously she was concerned, so at least you’re now not having to wait for the biopsy appointment. That’s one bit done at least. There was someone on here a few weeks ago whose doctor was also incredibly certain, but their results were negative, so they can be wrong.
It’s going to be a tough wait for results now you’re thinking the worst, but please try to remain optimistic until you know otherwise, and fingers crossed it turns out to be nothing sinister. Have you got people around you to talk to?
Best wishes,
Kate
Hi
How are you? Have you had the results from your biopsy yet?
I've got my fingers crossed that everything was fine.

Hi latchbrook,
I’m ok thanks for asking, appreciate it, I hope your well. I’ve had my results it was a 1B no shocks there. I had my SLNB and WLE on Thursday and it’s so painful!! Glad it’s over and done with now just have to wait for the SLNB results now should take about a month. Hopefully it’s all clear. Just want to put this all behind me and get on with life!
xx
Oh I'm sorry to hear that it did turn out to be melanoma , although I think you were expecting that
I had both the WLE and SLNB and think that after a few days I found I didn't need to continue with painkillers. Hopefully you're discomfort will ease shortly too.
Do come back and let us know the results of the WLE and SLNB.
