Hi. I had my SLNB on Oct 4th. I’ve already had the results that it’s clear (yay!). I’ve been recovering well but over the last week a massive swelling has grown at the SLNB site on my thigh. It’s like an apple protruding out my leg. It’s obviously a mass of fluid but it looks awful and is uncomfortable. It started to go red so I saw the GP and he gave me antibiotics as it’s infected. I just wondered if anyone else had experience of this. I think it’s a seroma? How big should it get before I do anything. Do they go by themselves? The WLE site looks fine. I’ve put a dressing on the SLNB to stop my clothes rubbing on it.
Any advice or similar experiences welcome.
Hi , Congratulations on the all clear. I haven’t had a swelling like yours after surgery, but I was given the skin cancer nurse specialist phone number to talk to her about any questions or problems, I hope you were given a number to I think that I would have contacted them by now, as my hospital seems to deal with more after care than my doctors, but I think each county has a different way of doing things.
Take care KT
Hi, I had my operation 6 weeks ago and my swelling is under my arm. The SNB scar is about 7 inches across and has healed really well but like you I have a very uncomfortable, hard bulge just below the scar. The wound on my back is in an awkward place and hasn't healed at one end so I have a pound coin size hole near my spine. I go to see our local nurse 3 times a week to have it packed and she suggested massaging my armpit to get the fluid moving. Worth a try. Fantastic news on your NED. Take care and keep positive
Ah sorry you have it too and that you have further complications. I don’t like moaning because I’m so pleased I’m NED but I could do without this alien sticking out my leg. I’m back in work on Monday too as I’ve had three weeks off. I’ll try massaging it a bit. It’s very hard - literally like a tennis ball. Thank you for replying.
