Hi everyone, I was disagnoswd with stage 2a melanoma in August , i had a lymph node surgery in my groin 10th Oct , today my McMillan nurse rang me with an appointment to see my surgeon On 29th October ( results day ) but let it slip that I will receive a letter for a CT scan, it’s obvious now that the results rang as hoped .

  • Hi KIHum, and welcome to the on line community. I am making the assumption that you think you’re going to get bad news due to the slip that your going to be invited to a scan, and to be honest I think it likely that they are doing a scan because they found melanoma in your lymph node. As you say you’ve had lymph node surgery I’m assuming that the affected lymph node has been removed. I’m hoping that you find having a scan reassuring that they are checking you out. My experience is though that until you know the results of all the investigations you will feel a bit apprehensive and that’s very normal. I hope you coped well waiting for the first set of results and that the next wait goes as quickly as it can.

My next scan is on the 6th November and I’m expecting my wait for the results to be about 4 weeks.

    Best wishes

    Take care KT

Hi , yes I’m making the assumptions that they have found evidence of melanoma in my nodes ( they took four out ) am just concerned that I was told 4 weeks for results to come back but my surgery was only just over 1.5 weeks ago . I’m not going to lie I’m a little scared now if what I’m going to hear - what has the procedure and results been like for everyone else who needed a CT scan ?

  • Hi KIHum, In March I had one lymph node removed which had melanoma in it, and I’m on adjuvant therapy Pembrolizumab to mop up any microscopic cells that might be around to help my immune system prevent any cells forming further tumours. I have CT scans every three months to confirm that I am still no measurable disease and to pick up any growth or spread. I did not see my surgeon again after my surgery as I was already seeing oncologists prior to surgery.

I hope some others give their experience, and you feel comfortable to ask any questions.

    Take care KT

Thank you , it does make you feel not so alone when you talk to others . Iv not once cried about my diagnosis until yesterday and now I can’t stop ! It just  scares  you so much when you see the survival rates .

  • Hi , I wondered how you were feeling now, I mostly don’t think about survival rates, I remember being worried when I started a new treatment and a very wise dr said gently to me, just concentrate on now that right now your feeling fine. I have a scan next week so it jogged my memory that you are waiting for your date and some results I believe, I wondered if they had come in.

Hi , thank you for thinking of me , so results are in ! Melanoma was present in 1 node , had a CT scan yesterday so waiting on results for that ( preying everything is clear ) so after that surgeon said we will have a definite treatment plan - I felt great to be honest after I got the results because now I know , I’m not going to lie I can feel the anxiety kicking in again now waiting for CT results it’s the fear of the unknown I find difficult.
