Hi, when taking these do people have to go to the hospital every month for blood tests and pick up new tablets?

  • Carolee

not sure if everyone is the same,I’m sure they will tell you my husbands was on these for over two years .he went for bloods the day before picking up tablets.once a month

  • Hi , I was on Dabrafenib only, not the combo,  in 2015 for 9 months, every month I went in for bloods then a drs appointment to discuss if I felt well get scan results etc, then hung around to pick up the tablets from the hospital pharmacist, this meant being at the hospital for about 3 to 4 hours. They are very expensive tablets so part of the delay was the verification process between oncologist, specialist pharmacy dept, and the dispensing pharmacist. The other part of the delay was getting the blood results through for the oncologist to authorise the next dose. I used to take a code word book with me to keep occupied in the wait, I also felt a bit nervous until I go5 more used to it in case the blood results meant they might stop treatment. In the end it was a scan that showed progression that moved me on to my second treatment of Pembrolizumab.

I looked to see why you were asking but you haven’t put anything in your profile yet. I hope you or your loved one are well.

Thanks for the info. Your description sounds just the same as what happens when I go to see the doctors at the hospital. I am on a clinical trial and just checked the info on it and it seems I'll be having monthly visits for up to 44 months if everything goes well. Then I think it's discussion time with consultant.

I have filled in my profile, so not sure why you could not see it SmirkThinkingThinking

  • I can see it now Grinning no idea why I couldn’t see it before. Really interesting that you’re on a trial, wishing you all the best with it.
