Hi all, just trying to find out average wait times for the above. My husband had immediate excision late August 19, diagnosis mid Sept Stage 2b still waiting for WLE and SLNB - expected late November 19. Is this normal - as you will all know the emotional effects are devastating- just about keeping moving forward.

Hi ...I think it varies from area to area, hospital to hospital. my hubby had mole removed 5 Aug this year, diagnosis of melanoma 19 Aug , CT scan 30 Aug and  SLNB and WLE 13 Sept . We are still waiting on results of CT scan and other tests but seeing SCNS on Friday this week. His case is being discussed Thurs at the MDT meeting so hoping to have results Friday and then can deal with whatever is next.

The waiting is so hard because all you want to do is get the tests over and done with as fast as possible so the results come through and treatment (if necessary) can start. Our house has been cleaned so many times this past few weeks ..kind of a coping strategy I guess. Hubby is already disabled and is taking things as they come but is obviously worried and a bit scared tbh.

I hope your hubby’s op date comes through quickly and the news is positive once the results come through xx

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear that your husband has been diagnosed with melanoma. I know what a shock this will have been to you both as I was diagnosed with Stage 2a melanoma, although it's nearly 3 years ago now.

If you take a look at my profile you'll see that I had the original excision in October, the results in December and the WLE and SLNB in February. So about 16 weeks from original excision to WLE and SLNB. It sounds like your husband's excision is going to be 12 weeks after his original excision so not an unusually long wait.

I do understand that he'll want to get it over and done with but my SCNS explained that the WLE was a "mopping up exercise" as the melanoma has already been removed. I'm not sure if that'll help you feel less worried about the length of time he's waiting but my WLE and SLNB came back clear.

If you want to ask any questions about the WLE and SLNB I'll be happy to answer them if I can.
