Hi has any one had a total lymph node clearance , looking for help with the sensations i'm having , only had the operation 4 weeks ago and still have a drain .

  • Hi, whereabouts was your clearance? I had lypmph nodes in my groin removed 3 weeks ago and still have a drain, I imagine it will be in for a while longer as its draining, on average, 375 mls in every 24 hours. I was told it has to get down to 50 mls in 24 hoirs before it can come out. I started a thread called " Going home with a drain after lymph node removal"  as I was concerned about strange sensations too. I don't know how to tag people or put in links but if you search on the forum you might find it! There are a few people out there who have had the same experience so hoping one of them may see your message!

  • Hi , I’ve popped in to help you, here’s the link you mentioned and a tip for doing it.

    https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/melanoma/f/melanoma-forum/183382/going-home-with-a-drain-after-lymph-node-removal?Page=2#1363602

    HOW TO TAG SOMEONE

When I want to tag for instance latchbrook, I put the @ sign in, and then without a space start typing her name, if you pause you will see that some names come up in a green box, click on the name you want, and the @ sign disappears and the name shows differently, it sends a message to say they’ve been mentioned in a post and a link to that post.

HOW TO PUT A LINK IN

Get to the page you want, And go to the address bar at the very top (for the link I’ve just put in it showed community.macmillan.org) select all and copy the link, then paste it into your reply. It helps to have the reply open in one tab and the other page on another tab.

I hope this helps and that I haven’t made it more complicated. I work on a tablet mainly, if I used a laptop I could make the link condensed into a few words like you see  doing.

(edited to add that ’s lymphnodes were under her arm)

    Best wishes

    Take care KT

Hi I had a total clearance of all nodes in my right armpit the drain is on my side as the scar stretches from the front of my armpit across and down my side , I've been told it can come out when it drains under 30ml a day for so many consecutive days, I'm averaging around 50ml at the mo,. Thanks for the info I shall try and find the post, here's hoping all goes well for you.

    Regards Heather

  • Thank you so much for that that's really helpful.

Hi LabradorMum, I've had all my lymph nodes in my left arm pit removed. Had the operation on 25th June, first drain was removed on the 29th June and I was sent home. Second drain was removed 4 weeks later. I'm only just now able to raise my arm up enough without pain, but so far things have not been too bad. I don't have any feeling in the centre of my armpit, probably for about a patch of 5 x 10 centimeters. I've been told this may come back. I have all kinds of weird sensations still, but I found once the second the drain came out I was able to move about more and so stretch the tendons. The nerves are still not quite right, but I have more feeling than I did a month ago. So far I've not had any fluid build up (touch wood). It all seems to be going in the right direction so far.

I hope that helps a little

    I wish you a speedy recovery x
