Is it possible for them to diagnose if my melanoma is nodular from my initial excision biopsy
That is the only time that they will be able to tell what type of melanoma you had Sonny09 as the WLE is only taking away a further area of skin around the original excision site.
You could ask your SCNS to tell you what type of melanoma you had if you want to know.

Hi Sonny09
I too was diagnosed with superficial spreading melanoma 1B 1.3mm deep on my right leg at the end of February. I had my SLNB and WLE on 14th March. Just had my first 3 month check up and all good .
Any questions or concerns you may have, please don't hesitate to ask, I will help where I can.
It's not as easy road, but everyone on this site are amazingly supportive and make it so much more bearable.
Hi Sonny09
I didn't have a skin graft, my plastic surgeon thought I would have a better result without a skingraft. Saying that, the skin was awfully tight afterwards as it is just above my right knee. For the first two weeks I was bandaged from top of thigh to toe to stop me from bending me knee. It was nearly two months before I could bend my leg sufficiently to walk up and down the stairs, but have to say it has healed lovely now.
I didn't ask how many nodes they removed but I wouldn't have thought more than two as they struggled to find them. I was admitted to the Nuclear Medicine department at 11.30am for nuclear dye trace and should have been on the ward for 1.30pm to go down for my op. 3pm and they were still struggling to find my nodes! Eventually at 4.15pm they sent me down to the ward marked up with what they thought were my nodes. My plastic surgeon met me and said he would try with his handheld scanner in theatre as that was more accurate, but if he wasn't 100% then he wouldn't do the SLNB. I woke up in recovery to be told they had managed to do it.... phew!
I left the hospital at 10pm that night in a wheelchair, with the hubby and kids collecting me! I could have stayed in, but really wanted to be home with the family. All I had to do to go home was have a drink, eat something and wee.... the hardest part was walking to the toilet, but the nurse helped me
