I have MM diagnosed Oct 2017 2a, for the last week I have had a productive cough and my whole body aches. I try to put this into perspective and am trying to keep my anxiety at bay, but it’s difficult. I know that it’s probably a virus as I am starting to feel slightly better but MM is so sneaky you just never know. I am going to see my Derm consultant next week and hopefully she will reassure but I am not sleeping and becoming very tearful.

  • Hi , welcome to the online community, I haven’t had a spread to my lungs so I can’t say any reassuring or negative words from personal experience of coughs and body aches. I have scans every three months and always have a bit of anxiety before the scan and before I get the results so I’m wondering if your already planned in derm appointment is the catalyst for your not sleeping and being tearful. You are right though MM is sneaky when I had a spread to my ovary, and then on another time a recurrence in a lymph node I had no idea, before I was told.

You don’t say when next week you have your derm appointment I hope you haven’t got long to wait, do you have a keyworker a skin cancer nurse that you can contact, to just tell them your worries, they can be very reassuring and help with fighting your corner, perhaps mentioning to the derm that you will have concerns when you come in. I find when I write my concern down I can tell if I’m just being anxious or if I’ve got a real concern that I need to do something about so I hope if nothing else posting has helped clarify any thoughts you have and don’t dismiss any concerns if you are feeling better when you get to see the derm you can always mention that you haven’t been well and that you’ve been concerned, that background knowledge could be helpful when they check your lymph nodes and could be helpful as they also have a remit for psychological help to cope with the uncertainty that gets to us all at times.

I hope your appointment goes well and that you will come back and tell us how it went, and if waiting is getting difficult come back to just talk again.

Thank you, my appointment is on Monday so not to long to wait.

  • , Monday that’s good, as you say not long to wait now and wobbles happen.

I hope you can put your worries down on paper to take with you and discuss at the appointment, and leave them on the paper and not in your head til Monday. I love lists especially when you can cross things off them !! Grinning

  • Hi

Just want to wish you all the best for your consultation today. I hope your symptoms do turn out to be just a virus but do pop back later and let us know.

Thank you for asking, I saw my consultant who thought it was viral but wants me to go back in a week if it continues. I also had 2 moles removed which my consultant said looked fine but she would send off to the path lab just to check. My next official appointment is for 6 months? Pending cough of course.

I thought the pathway was 3 monthly for the first 2 yrs? I was diagnosed Oct 2017

  • That's good news that your consultant is pretty sure it's viral. Do you know when you should get your results back from these two moles that have been sent off?

You're right that it's recommended that Stage 1b and above should be checked every 3 months for 3 years then every 6 months for 2 years. My original consultant after a couple of visits to him said that he was confident I could go to 6 monthly check-ups but I wanted to stay at 3 monthly which is what happened. Did you query why she wants to move you to 6 monthly?

  • Hi

I was wondering how you were and if your cough and aches did turn out to be a virus?

Have you had the results back from the two moles you've had removed yet?
