Notice a mole just appear about a month ago on my little toe, i had been going for a few sunbeds because i had a holiday coming up and usually do this every year to stop me burning on holiday. I took a photo when I noticed it and ment to call the doctors but forgot and tonight just took another pic to compare. Looks like its got slightly bigger. Does this look like something i should get checked out ? 37 year old male. [edited by admin]
Hi and welcome to the online community
It's always worrying when you notice a change to your skin but only your GP can decide whether the mole that has appeared needs further investigation or not, so making an appointment to see him or her would be a good idea.
I don't want to scare you but can I caution you against using a sunbed in future as it is a myth that they provide your skin with protection against sun burn. In fact the British Association of Dermatologists has stated that "there is strong evidence that use of sunbeds increases the risk of skin cancers, including malignant melanoma". You can read the information that they provide about sunbeds by clicking on this link.
Do let us know how you get on when you see the GP.
As others have said any changes to your skin/moles should be checked out. Can I also please urge you not to use sunbeds anymore. I was a sunbed worshipper and ended up with melanoma. Luckily I am now free of cancer but wish I had been more informed about the dangers back in the 80s. I now use a self tan lotion if I want to add some colour to my pale complexion but always use spf 50 when out in the sun avoiding the hottest times of day.
Regards
Hi
How did you get on when you showed your GP your mole?
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything's okay.
