Melanoma and BCC

Does anyone know if you are more at risk of BCC if you have had Melanoma, or vice versa?

During my wound check and lesson to self check lymph nodes last week, the nurse spotted what she thinks is a BCC on the side of nose nose, close to my eye.

I go into hospital tomorrow where a biopsy will be taken.

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear that you may have a BCC.

Unfortunately, having had a melanoma we are more at risk of having another or a different form of skin cancer. This is the reason that we are shown how to check our skin and have three monthly check-ups. It's good that your nurse has spotted a potential BCC as, although they're not as dangerous as a melanoma, they still need treating.

Let us know how you get on and don't forget to ask how long your results will be and how they'll let you know.

  • Hi

    Thank you for your message.

All done and home now. Quick and pain free, apart from the anaesthetic needle!

Results anywhere from 2-3 weeks to 2 months! Given via letter or appointment. All very vague!

I'm resting now, praying for the swelling to go down and no black eye to appear as I have my lovely nephew's wedding on Saturday.

  • Yes, those anaesthetic injections do sting don't they !

With my latest biopsy I was told 2-6 weeks and that I might get them by letter or appointment. They were back just short of 4 weeks and the results have been posted to me.

Hope you have a lovely time at your nephew's wedding this weekend and let us know when you get your results.

  • They sure do !! No pain thereafter though, thankfully!

Do you think results by post is good news? I think it sounds it.

    Thank you so much.

I will let you know when I receive them.

Thanks again for all your support.

  • My hospital has a policy of not giving results over the phone but I asked as I'm away on holiday and won't see them for 2 weeks. The secretary said she could tell me I'd been discharged so, in other words, I didn't need anymore treatment. So that was good news!

  • My first 3 month check went well today... will see my lovely SCNS again in 3 months.

And she gave me the best news ... the recent biopsy I had on my nose, shows it is a normal mole, not a BCC, so no further treatment required Blush
