Hi I had a punch biopsy a week ago for suspected melanoma on my face (right cheek) the biopsy was performed on the same day is this normal? I also have a swollen lymph node on the same side. I was just wanting to know how soon people got their results. This was just a freckle which I first noticed 9 months ago but it had started to go a lot darker and more noticeable. My GP fast tracked my appointment and I was seen within a week.

Thanks for reading xx

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the online community.

I'm sorry to hear that you have a suspected melanoma and had a punch biopsy done a week ago.

Results generally take between 2-6 weeks depending on how busy the path labs are.

You could give your skin cancer nurse specialist (SCNS) a call tomorrow and ask her what the current wait time is in your area.

Let us know how you get on.

I phoned hospital today and they have checked on computer but nothing is back yet Frowning2️xx

  • Did you ask what the normal length of time is for biopsy results to come back in your area ? I would have been surprised if they were back already.

I read really need to stop worrying but the not knowing is awful x

  • I know the waiting is torture but we can wait together.

I had a biopsy two weeks ago for a suspect lesion on my arm. Having been diagnosed with an amelanotic melanoma coming up to three years ago, when a red mark recently appeared on my arm my consultant gave me the choice of having it biopsied or removed. I opted for the latter and am now, like you, waiting for results.

Try to focus on doing things that you enjoy and try not to worry, easier said than done I know, but worrying won't make any difference to the outcome. If it does turn out to be a melanoma then for most people surgery is all that is required to remove it.

If you want to ask any questions please don't Google, as a lot of information is way out of date, but come back here and ask people who have actually had a melanoma and we should be able to explain most things.

Thank you it’s nice to have someone to discuss this with and should it come back as melanoma then it’s good to know that there are people on here that can offer advice and reassurance. I hope you get some good news from your biopsy and anybody else that is waiting for results or going through this I wish you all well.

    Thanks again Xxx
