Hello,

Not entirely sure where to turn to just now but when nursing my father through advanced prostate cancer found this forum an amazing support .

Fast forward a few years and I find myself here again .

A week ago my husband went to our GP as I insisted and she referred him urgently to hospital .

He had a 10mm by 7 mm black mole which has appeared and grown suddenly underneath his left shoulder blade .

on examination it was diagnosed as an malignant melanoma and, today ,just 4 days later he had an hour long excision procedure to have it removed .

Thank you Pray NHS!

My question is when the tumour and margin removed is it possible to see with the naked eye how deep it is? My husband asked to see and whole sample was discoloured .

  • Hi and welcome to the melanoma group

I'm sorry that you find yourself back on this site, this time because your husband has been diagnosed with melanoma.

My honest answer to your question about whether it's possible to see with the naked eye how deep the removed melanoma is, is I don't know. I realise that isn't much help but I do know that the depth will be measured and reported back to the consultant when it is examined at the path labs.

Has your husband been told how long it's likely to be before he gets his results? I'm currently in the waiting for results phase, having had a lesion removed a fortnight ago, and was told I should hear in 2-6 weeks.

  • Hi

I hope you and your husband are both well. Has your husband had the results from his mole removal yet?

I'm hoping that it turned out not to be melanoma and that's why we haven't heard from you.
