Question about dermatology appointment

I have my first dermatology appointment on June 15 to get some moles checked out. They are both on my bottom of my left foot, on the sole, and one of them has started changing shape, so I would really like to get them removed asap. Do derms remove moles on the first visit? Or is it something that they look at and schedule a removal for later on? I'm asking because I have been waiting for this appointment for a long time and I do not want to do any more waiting as these moles have me concerned.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear that you have a couple of moles that you are worried about on the sole of your foot.

Usually at the first appointment the dermatologist will examine your moles and decide whether they need removing or not. This information gives more details about what happens at the consultation.

If s/he thinks that the moles need removing then an appointment will be made for you to have an excision. Often it is a plastic surgeon who will remove the mole rather than a dermatologist as not all dermatologists perform excisions and also plastic surgeons tend, in my experience, to do a neater job with the stitching!

If the dermatologist is unsure if the moles need removing an appointment may be made for you to go back in a few weeks to see if the moles have changed in the meantime.

Do come back and let us know how your appointment goes and feel free to ask us any questions you like.

  • Hi

I'm sorry I haven't been back to ask you how you got on at the dermatologist before now. Did the consultant feel that your moles needed removing?
