Agonising wait for treatment to start next week while I watch the lump on my husbands back grow and know that all the tumours in his body are doing the same. Seven days for the drugs to arrive is an infinity. We try to keep normal activities going but it is difficult for either of us to have any appetite for food. Now 4 weeks since we realised melanoma had returned with a vengeance.
Hi , I know the wait can be agonising, and very natural to worry about things growing. It’s still early days for you both to come to terms with the uncertainty of the diagnosis. You said you are trying to keep normal activities going, I hope you are planning some treats in as well for you both, and some ‘me’ time for you both separately and as a couple. The carers group might be able to help with some experiences of how they coped.
I wrote and have deleted a much longer reply about me and my husband and how I felt I had to get him to open up to me more and not just be this person showing no emotions, which is also how I think I also dealt with things at first.
Appetites are funny things sometimes, anxiety can either make you over eat, or not feel like enjoying anything, but the important thing is to try and eat as healthily as possible to help both of your immune systems.
I hope the next few days get easier for you, and that you can breathe a sign of relief when treatment starts.
Take care KT
